Enso is now FREE!!!

A relatively new software company called Humanized has developed this great time saving software that does not get in the way of your way.

“Having to change programs to perform simple tasks—for example, making a quick calculation, or looking up a definition—breaks your concentration, takes you away from the task at hand, and wastes your valuable time. Enso lets you do common computing tasks easier and faster than ever before. You get a huge productivity boost and a simpler digital life. And now that Enso is free, it won’t cost you a penny.” - Humanized.com

My favorite online flash games

I have found that online flash games are extremely popular. This is probably because you (usually) don’t have to wait a long time to download it and they are free. Unfortunately because they are free they usually aren’t good/playable and they aren’t updated often/ever. But there are some that stand out. I am here to tell you in no particular order what those games are.

1. Dwarfs Complete
http://lineage2.plaync.jp/l2fun/flashGame.aspx

This addicting puzzle game is very nice for several reasons. It automatically saves your progress (using cookies i guess). It’s not too hard but there is a level of mind power that is required to solve the various puzzles. The site is in Japanese but just ignore it and play the game. The game itself is about a dwarf who I think is trying to get off of either an abandoned planet or the moon. To complete the game you need to find 40 pieces of equipment create a floating rock and activate the spaceship to get off the moon/planet. You control your character with the arrow keys and you can use various tools you make from materials by clicking on them. I really liked this game and I recommend it to people who like puzzle games.

Myminicity.com

I was surfing the interweb when I found this cool little site. You make your own mini city and you gain population from people visiting your city. for example if you go to my city http://zagaroth.myminicity.com I will get another population. My favorite thing about this site is the graphics. Just look at my city as of December 29, 2007.

city

It is a very nice looking game especially when you get even bigger. So come on and help me out. :)

In addition to increasing population you can

  • Increase industry
  • Improve the transport network
  • Increase security
  • Improve environment
  • and Increase business

Send people to the links for those things once you have enough population to do so. Right now I don’t have enough population but when I do I will post those links.

Please help me out and go to my mini city.

If you want you can post a link to your mini city in the comments and we can help everybody’s city grow.

UPDATE:
Thank you everybody who visited my site I can now increase industry :).

Go to http://zagaroth.myminicity.com/ind and remember you can post your mini city here too.

UPDATE AGAIN:
Now I can increase transportation!

Alltel and Mac vs. PC commercial fun

Well with the holidays come holiday themed commercials and I just want to share something I noticed.

The Alltel and the Mac vs. PC commercials are fundamentally the same thing. A “suave” young hip guy and a geek or four. Here is an example of both of their TV commercials.

Alltel

Mac vs. PC

These are their regular commercials and here are their holiday commercials:

Alltel

Mac vs. PC

Notice anything? I sure did. Both went from actual people to claymation. I have a couple of ideas why.

  1. Both companies realized that people like claymation at the same time.
  2. It’s less expensive to have a clay Santa then it is to hire one and buy a set.
  3. They both use the same company to produce their ads.
  4. They are the same company.
  5. All their base are belong to geeks.
  6. An advanced race of clay dreidels are trying to take over media and give Santa a bad name therefore making Hanukkah superior to Christmas.
  7. Coincidence.

And now for something completely different:

Pointing stick vs. Touch pad

Pointing stick vs. touch pad, knob vs. track pad, stick vs. drag thingy they all mean the same thing. both of them have their benefits and their shortcomings. both can accomplish the same task but to different degrees. For those of you reading this that don’t know what I’m talking about I’ll give you some of my insight.

pointing stick

Here it is in all of its glory. Nestled between the G, H, and B. The pointing stick is what I personally use all/most of the time. All you need to do is put your finger on it and push or pull in the direction where you want the mouse to go. This is more common on older computers. I know it is on most, if not all, Latitude laptops, it’s also on Precision, Inspiron 4000, and the Inspiron 8200. (these are just dell Laptops, there are other brands with the stick on it)

Pros:

  • For me the stick is much easier to maneuver than the touch pad and I can get more precision out of it.
  • You can move the pointer 1 pixel in any direction (up, down, left, right) with ease.
  • The stick is stiff so if you sweep your hand over it, it probably wont move the pointer.
  • It is in the middle of the keyboard so you don’t have to move your hand over to a mouse or other mouse based device.

Cons:

  • Leaves a little “dent” in your finger after heavy use (games) and it becomes sensitive and painful

dent

  • It is not attached to your computer so if you lose it you need to buy another one and they are expensive! I’ve seen them for 5 dollars in some stores.

  • They wear out pretty fast (Then again I like the sticks when they are worn out).

  • Sometimes the pointer on your screen drags in a direction (usually stops after 1-5 seconds).

touch pad

And now we come to the Touch pad.As far as I can tell they work by sensing electricity from your hand to move the mouse around (not sure about this theory :) ). There are different kinds of pads but they basically all do the same things. You put your finger on the pad and move it. The pointer on your screen moves accordingly. An interesting thing I noticed about it is that the pointer moves relative to the speed of your finger. If you move your finger slowly from one end of the pad to the other the pointer might go half-way, if you move your hand fast the pointer reaches the other side of the screen easily.

Pros:

  • Near to your thumb for quick mouse moving.
  • Put a finger on both sides and release them one after another for a super speed pointer attack.
  • Good for quick movements that don’t need accuracy.
  • Some pads have scrolling function(left-right, up-down).

Cons:

  • Accidental movements occur often (even worse if you have “pad clicking” on).
  • It gets confused when more than one appendage touching it.
  • Cannot be (easily) replaced.
  • Crumbs can get stuck in the ridge.
  • It gets scratched and dirty pretty easily.

In the end I tend to use the pointer more often but the pad has its uses as well. I hope you enjoyed my article and please comment if you liked it.

Drug Induced Spider Webs

LSD spider's web

mescaline spider's web

hashish spider's web

caffeinated spider's web

a drug-free spider's web

In order from top to bottom: LSD, Mescaline, Hashish, and Caffeine; the bottom one is a regular spider web.

I find it quite odd how with all of them there is something wrong, with LSD everything is aligned perfectly and very neat, but the spider left out the horizontal web; with the Mescaline and Hash it is only a 3/4 web; and Caffeine has the worst effect, hm…..maybe this could tell us something? It is very odd that the Caffeine is completely unrecognizable, yet this is the drug most humans use the most. Anyway, the web with no drugs is still the best.

Radiohead’s New Album, In Rainbows, Available Online For Free!

For all of you Radiohead fans, you probably know already about all the great music that they have made.  Radiohead is defined by their smooth rhythms and pretty melodies, which they use with a rock-based tone.  One thing that might be exciting for anyone who enjoys their music is that they have just come out with a new album which is available for download or delivery on their website.  But the great part about this is that it is 100% free for anyone who chooses not to make a donation.  Their new album is called In Rainbows.  This album has ten tracks and each introduces a new and unique sound, which makes their music very haunting.  Using a lot of pianos, electronic instruments, and adding other soft sounds making each song almost eerie.  In Rainbows is accessible here.  Once you get to this site it asks you how much you would like to donate (you don’t have to give any money at all if you don’t want to.) But the catch is that the site gets shut down on December 10th this upcoming Monday.  So if you are a fan of Radiohead this is an offer that you definitely don’t want to miss.
